What the chart tells you
- 10 and 11 are the most likely totals, at 12.5% each.
- Half of all rolls are 11 or more (50.0%), and half are 10 or less.
- A total of 15 or more comes up 9.26% of the time, and 16 or more 4.63%.
- An 18 needs three sixes: 0.46%, or 1 in 216. A 3 is just as rare.
- Any triple (all three dice the same): 2.78%, or 1 in 36.
Where this matters
Rolling three dice and adding them is the classic way to generate character statistics in tabletop role-playing games, and several dice games score on the three-dice total. Because the totals bunch around 10 and 11, extreme scores are much rarer than they look: you are about 27 times more likely to roll a 10 than an 18.
