Two six-sided dice have 36 equally likely combinations. Seven can be made six different ways, more than any other total, so it comes up 16.7% of the time.

What the chart tells you
- Seven is the most likely total at 16.7%, or 1 in 6.
- Six and eight are next at 13.9% each. Together, 6, 7 and 8 make up 44.4% of all rolls.
- Two and twelve are the rarest at 2.78% each, or 1 in 36.
- The odds are symmetrical: a total as far below 7 as another is above it has the same chance.

- The chance of rolling any double is 16.7%, or 1 in 6.
- Two doubles in a row: 2.78%, or 1 in 36.
- Three doubles in a row: 0.46%, or 1 in 216.
- A specific double, such as double six: 2.78%.
Where this matters
Any board game that moves or pays out on two dice follows this chart. In settlement-building games, spaces numbered 6 and 8 produce almost five times as often as spaces numbered 2 and 12. In property-trading games, the squares 6, 7 and 8 steps ahead of a popular square are landed on most.
