Free to play. No email. No download.

A poker-style game you can start in a few seconds without handing over any personal information.

What you need to play

To play Closest Call you choose two things: a handle, which is the name other players see, and a password. That is all. You are at a table a few seconds later.

What you are never asked for

  • No email address. There is no inbox to confirm and no mailing list.
  • No phone number and no text message code.
  • No real name, date of birth or address.
  • No payment details. There is nothing to buy, so there is no card to enter.
  • No social media login. The game does not connect to any other account.
  • No download. It runs in the web browser on a phone, tablet or computer.

What "free" means here

  • There are no purchases of any kind, and no ads.
  • Chips are play chips. They have no cash value and cannot be bought, sold or cashed out.
  • Every player starts each six-week season with 10,000 chips, and can claim 1,000 free chips up to 5 times a day.
  • Nothing is locked behind a paywall. Tables, tournaments and leaderboards are open to everyone.

What the game does keep

To make leaderboards and your chip bank work, the game stores your handle, a scrambled (hashed) copy of your password, and your play record: chips, hands, tournament results and stats. Your handle and stats are public on the leaderboards, so we suggest not using your real name as a handle. The details are in the Privacy Policy.

The trade-off. Because the game has no email address for you, it cannot recover a handle for you. Without a password, a handle works only on the device where you created it, and clearing that browser's data loses it. With a password you can sign in anywhere, but there is no password reset, so let your browser save it.

What you get

  • A poker-style game that is quick to learn. Pick a secret number, bet through three rolls of five dice, and get closest to the total without going over, or bluff everyone into folding. See how to play.
  • A game at any hour. Open seats are filled by house bots, so there is always a table running.
  • Public leaderboards for each season and for all time.
  • Daily tournaments. A Daily Championship at 8 PM Eastern from Monday to Saturday, and 9-player tournaments that start when the table fills.
  • Private tables. Send a link to friends and play together.

Who can play

Closest Call is for adults aged 18 and over. It simulates betting for entertainment, and no real money is involved at any point.
